Genealogy.com's chat is a free service where you'll find people like you who are interested in finding out more about their family's history. People from all over the world with a wide range of genealogy experience come here to meet and offer each other assistance.
Genealogy.com's chat is for people researching all surnames. There are not individual chat rooms for individual surnames.
Rules and Tips
A few basic things we'd like all chatters to keep in mind:
- If you are new to genealogy and want to learn how to find your ancestors, try our Learning Center
- Most people start out by posting a list in all capital letter of the surnames they are researching (e.g. AURILIA BONDS KENT).
- Remember, if you post your personal information (mailing or e-mail address or telephone number) it is public for everyone to see. Use the ability to send a private message if you want to share that information with someone. To send a private message use the co
mmand /tell Bob How are you?
- The best defense against someone who may be disruptive is to use the ignore command so you don't see any messages from that person.
- To ignore someone use the command /ignore add Bob.
- To remove someone from your ignore list use the command /ignore remove Bob.
- To see who you are currently ignoring use the command /ignore list.
